Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP)
MAP 11-52-0 granular from China — a high-analysis phosphate fertilizer supplying ammoniacal nitrogen and fully available phosphorus for basal application and blend manufacturing.
11-52-0 NH4H2PO4 CAS 7722-76-1 Granule
Available on enquiry — supply confirmed per order
Monoammonium phosphate is the highest-analysis solid phosphate fertilizer in normal international trade. The grade sold as 11-52-0 carries 11% nitrogen in the ammoniacal form and 52% available P2O5, which makes it the cheapest way to move phosphate into a blend per unit of nutrient.
Because the phosphate is present as orthophosphate and the granule is chemically acid, MAP is the phosphate source most blending plants prefer when the compound has to sit in a warehouse. It is non-hygroscopic under normal storage, it does not set in the bag, and it granulates compatibly with urea, ammonium sulfate and potash.
China is one of the two largest MAP exporting countries. The grades that actually move out of Chinese ports differ from the European and North American standard: alongside 11-52-0, Chinese producers ship 10-50-0 and 11-44-0, which are cheaper per tonne and are bought specifically for blending where the P2O5 content of the finished compound is being balanced up with TSP or DAP.
Grades that are actually traded
The nominal grade is the headline. What a buyer can actually order is the set of grades the market quotes, and they are not interchangeable on price or on analysis:
- 11-52-0 granular
- 10-50-0 granular
- 11-44-0 granular
Availability of any specific grade is confirmed per order against the production schedule. A grade that is quoted today is not a grade that is in stock.
Specification
The table below gives the nominal analysis and the parameters that a buyer should write into the contract. Values that depend on the production lot are not printed as numbers here, because a number on a website is not a guarantee — the lot COA is.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Total nitrogen (N) | 11% min |
| Ammoniacal nitrogen | 11% min |
| Available P2O5 | 52% min |
| Water-soluble P2O5 | 87% min of available P2O5 Typical; confirmed per lot |
| Moisture | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
| Granule size 2–4 mm | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
| Crushing strength | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
| Bulk density | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
Typical values describe the grade as it is normally traded. The guaranteed analysis for your order is the one stated on the certificate of analysis issued for the production lot, and it is confirmed in the sales contract before shipment.
Applications
- Basal (pre-plant) application in cereals, oilseeds and sugarcane
- Raw material for NP and NPK blend manufacturing
- Blends with urea, ammonium sulfate, TSP and potash
- Horticultural and plantation crops where a high-phosphate starter is used
Why this product, and not the one next to it
Highest P2O5 per tonne
At 52% available P2O5 there is less freight and less bag per unit of phosphate than with TSP or SSP, which matters most on a long ocean leg.
Stable in storage
The granule is chemically acid and does not absorb moisture the way DAP can. It stays free-flowing in a warehouse in a humid climate.
Blends without reaction
MAP is compatible with urea and with ammonium sulfate in a mechanical blend. DAP and urea in the same bag release ammonia; MAP and urea do not.
Packaging options
- 50 kg PP woven bags with PE liner
- 25 kg bags, on request
- 1000 kg / 1250 kg jumbo bags (FIBC)
- Bulk in vessel, for full cargoes
Loading quantity depends on packaging, container type and the weight limit of the destination country. It is confirmed per order. The bag type, bag weight, liner and marks are stated on the quotation so that two offers can be compared on the same basis.
Quality documentation
- Certificate of analysis for the production lot
- Technical data sheet
- Material safety data sheet
- Packing list and commercial invoice
- Certificate of origin
- Phytosanitary certificate where the destination requires it
Documents are issued on a per-shipment basis. Certification availability is confirmed for each order before contract.
Export considerations
MAP is a fertilizer-grade product and is not classified as dangerous goods for sea transport. It is carried as general cargo in containers or in the hold in bulk.
Several destination markets require the importer to hold a fertilizer registration before the cargo can be cleared. The registration is the buyer's responsibility and is not issued by the exporter.
Chinese fertilizer export is subject to inspection and to the licensing regime in force at the time of shipment. The requirement is confirmed per order before the contract is signed; it is not a fixed rule that can be quoted from a website.
Export regulations and import requirements can change. This is a general overview written for buyers, not a substitute for confirming current requirements with your customs broker and with our export team before you commit to a shipment.
Questions buyers ask about MAP
Is MAP the same as water-soluble MAP 12-61-0?
No, and the two are not interchangeable. MAP 11-52-0 is a granule made for soil application and blending; its phosphate is only partly water-soluble and it contains inert granulation material. Water-soluble MAP 12-61-0 is a purified crystal that dissolves completely and is used in fertigation and foliar sprays. They share a chemical name and nothing else that matters commercially.
Why do Chinese suppliers offer 10-50-0 and 11-44-0 as well as 11-52-0?
Because blending plants buy on nutrient cost, not on grade name. A 10-50-0 or 11-44-0 granule is cheaper per tonne and is used to bring phosphate into a compound that is already receiving P2O5 from another source. If you need the highest concentration for a long freight leg, 11-52-0 is the right choice.
Can MAP be blended with urea?
Yes. MAP and urea can be mechanically blended and stored together without the ammonia loss that occurs when DAP meets urea. This is the main reason blend plants in humid climates specify MAP rather than DAP for their phosphate source.
What is the difference between available and water-soluble P2O5?
Available P2O5 is the phosphate that the standard citrate extraction test shows the plant can use, and it includes both the water-soluble fraction and the fraction that becomes available in the soil. Water-soluble P2O5 is the part that dissolves immediately. MAP 11-52-0 typically runs 87% or more of its available P2O5 as water-soluble; the exact figure is on the lot COA.
