Urea Phosphate (UP)
Urea phosphate 17-44-0 — a fully water-soluble nitrogen and phosphate crystal with a strongly acidifying reaction, used in fertigation and in soluble blend manufacture.
17-44-0 CO(NH2)2 · H3PO4 White crystal
Available on enquiry — supply confirmed per order
Urea phosphate is a co-crystal of urea and phosphoric acid: 17% nitrogen, 44% P2O5, fully soluble. Its distinguishing property is acidity. In solution it is markedly more acid than MAP or MKP, which makes it useful where irrigation water is hard and the carbonate load has to be brought down.
That same acidity is the constraint. Urea phosphate cannot be mixed with calcium solutions, and at high concentration it is aggressive on equipment. It is used deliberately, in programmes where the acidifying effect is wanted, rather than as a general-purpose phosphate.
Commercially it sits between water-soluble MAP and phosphoric acid: it delivers nitrogen and phosphate together in a solid, soluble form, which is easier to handle and to ship than liquid acid.
Specification
The table below gives the nominal analysis and the parameters that a buyer should write into the contract. Values that depend on the production lot are not printed as numbers here, because a number on a website is not a guarantee — the lot COA is.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Total nitrogen (N) | 17% min |
| P2O5 | 44% min |
| Water-insoluble matter | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
| Moisture | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA |
| pH (1% solution) | Confirmed per lot — see TDS / COA Measured and declared per lot — this is the property the product is bought for |
| Appearance | White crystal |
Typical values describe the grade as it is normally traded. The guaranteed analysis for your order is the one stated on the certificate of analysis issued for the production lot, and it is confirmed in the sales contract before shipment.
Applications
- Fertigation where water hardness has to be reduced
- Acidifying starter solutions
- Soluble NPK manufacture
- Foliar phosphate in alkaline water conditions
Why this product, and not the one next to it
Acidifies the irrigation water
The strong acid reaction reduces bicarbonate and keeps the line clear, so it solves a water-chemistry problem at the same time as it feeds the crop.
Nitrogen and phosphate together
Two nutrients in one soluble crystal, which removes a separate urea addition from the tank.
Solid, so it ships easily
It delivers the effect of phosphoric acid in a bagged solid, avoiding the handling and dangerous-goods constraints of liquid acid.
Packaging options
- 25 kg PP woven bags with PE liner
- 25 kg paper bags
- 1000 kg jumbo bags (FIBC)
Loading quantity depends on packaging, container type and the weight limit of the destination country. It is confirmed per order. The bag type, bag weight, liner and marks are stated on the quotation so that two offers can be compared on the same basis.
Quality documentation
- Certificate of analysis for the production lot
- Technical data sheet
- Material safety data sheet
- Packing list and commercial invoice
Documents are issued on a per-shipment basis. Certification availability is confirmed for each order before contract.
Export considerations
The acidifying strength is the specification that has to be agreed in writing. Ask for the pH of a defined solution on the lot COA and set a range in the contract.
Never tank-mix with calcium or with alkaline materials.
Chinese export inspection and licensing requirements are confirmed per order at the time of shipment.
Export regulations and import requirements can change. This is a general overview written for buyers, not a substitute for confirming current requirements with your customs broker and with our export team before you commit to a shipment.
Questions buyers ask about UP
What is urea phosphate used for?
Mainly two things: fertigation in hard water, where its acidity reduces bicarbonate and scale, and soluble blend manufacture where nitrogen and phosphate are needed in one soluble input.
Can it replace phosphoric acid?
In some irrigation programmes, yes — it delivers the acidifying effect in a solid that is easier to handle. It is not a like-for-like replacement in industrial phosphoric acid uses, where the phosphate has to be free of urea.
